Charterhouse Rise, Godalming, Surrey
Positioned on a steep slope opposite Charterhouse School with breathtaking views over Godalming, this development of nine townhouses was designed to take advantage of the existing topography. The ground floor accommodated a bedroom/ granny flat/ teenage snug with its own private courtyard garden to the rear. Above this, the kitchen/ dining room spilled out into the raised garden via a wide access bridge.
Located in the “Godalming Hillsides Area of Special Environmental Quality” and needing to respect the setting of the adjacent listed building (Lutyens’ Red House), the houses were set back from the road and allowed views of the existing woodland behind.
